Applicants using the general residence requirement for citizenship by conferral.

The rule

The residence history and total absences over four years must also be checked. The required permanent visa or Special Category visa status is a separate condition. This counter covers only the days outside Australia during the final year.

Counting the days

Departure and return dates do not count; missing trips are not inferred.

  1. Choose the date through which you want to count, then add your recorded visits.
  2. Use the counting convention above. Include recorded trips abroad and returns home, so the tool can distinguish separate absences.
  3. Read the result alongside the conditions. Missing records and other eligibility requirements are not inferred from a total.
